  What are Aortic Valve Replacement and Aortic Valve Repair? Aortic valve repair or aortic replacement is a procedure carried out to treat diseases or damaged aortic valves. It is the aortic valve that separates the lower left heart chamber and the body's main artery. When the heart squeezes, the aortic valve opens to let the blood flow from the left ventricle to the aorta.  The heart relaxes the valves are closed, preventing blood from moving backward. A damaged or a diseased valve interferes with the blood flow. This makes it harder for the heart to pump blood to the rest of the body.
